The primary goal of Saving Kids' Sight is to help kids at risk of losing their vision from uncontrolled, advanced glaucoma.
The Icare Lending Library was set up at Duke Eye Center to give families a sense of control over their child's glaucoma. Families are trained in the use of the Icare tonometer, and sent home with a loaned unit, to monitor their child's eye pressure three times a day. Families report the IOP numbers back to their pediatric glaucoma specialist to enable timely adjustments to their child's medical care. This helps to prevent further damage to the optic nerve. To-date, Saving Kids' Sight has enabled grants to provide 44 tonometers to the Icare Lending Library at Duke Eye Center. Our goal is to help Duke to expand the lending library to three additional hospitals around the USA. |
